Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026. This policy explains how True Technologies collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information, in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are

True Technologies ("True Technologies", "we", "us") is a family-run Internet Service Provider and IT partner serving the Kouga region of the Eastern Cape. We are the "responsible party" for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at 042 293 4168 or accounts@true.co.za.

2. The information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Identity & contact details — name, South African ID or passport number, company/trust details, email address, phone number, and physical and postal addresses.
  • RICA documentation — copies of your ID, proof of address, and (for businesses) registration and resolution documents, as required by the Regulation of Interception of Communications Act (RICA).
  • Billing & payment details — your chosen package and add-ons, payment method, and (if you set up a debit order) the bank details on your signed mandate. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider; we do not store card numbers.
  • Service & support information — your installation details, account history, and any messages you send us.
  • Website usage — basic technical data and cookies (see section 8) to keep the site working and understand how it is used.
3. Why we collect it (and our lawful basis)
  • To provide, install, and support your internet and IT services (performance of our agreement with you).
  • To comply with legal obligations, including RICA registration and tax/record-keeping requirements.
  • To bill you and collect payment for the services you have taken.
  • To communicate with you about your account, faults, and service notices.
  • To send you marketing about our products and offers — only where you have given consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to deliver your service, including with:

  • Fibre network operators (such as MetroFibre and Openserve) to provision and maintain your fibre line.
  • Our payment provider (Netcash) to process once-off and recurring payments and debit orders.
  • Regulators and authorities where the law requires it (for example RICA, or a lawful request).
  • Trusted service providers who help us operate (for example our mail and hosting), under appropriate confidentiality obligations.
5. How we protect it

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to safeguard your information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Uploaded documents and account records are kept in restricted storage, and payments are handled by our PCI-compliant payment provider. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to address any incident promptly.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your personal information for as long as you are a customer and thereafter only as long as needed to meet legal, regulatory, tax, and legitimate business requirements (for example RICA and accounting record-keeping). When it is no longer required, we securely delete or de-identify it.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
  • ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate;
  • ask us to delete information where we are no longer entitled to keep it;
  • object to processing, and to withdraw marketing consent at any time;
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at accounts@true.co.za. You may also contact the Information Regulator (South Africa) at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za / POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za or inforegulator.org.za.

8. Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, remember your choices, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.

9. Marketing

We will only send you marketing communications where you have opted in. Every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time by contacting us.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page, with the "last updated" date above.
